WEB.mil Expands Services Offering Website Content and Portfolio Management Options for a Fee

The WEB.mil team is expanding its services catalog to include optional content and portfolio management support for a fee from the following three categories: Option 1: Content Specialist Option 2: Content Manager Option 3: Portfolio Manager These websites are already leveraging these services: www.navy.mil , www.nsa.gov and www.nro.gov. DOD units who need assistance managing their public websites and public web programs can choose one or more of the following content management options on a 3-month, 6-month or 12-month contract length at the selected a level of service and cost that fits their unit’s needs and budget. Part-time subject matter experts (SMEs) are also available.

WEB.mil training team offers insights on Google Analytics Dashboard

All federal agencies are required by Federal CIO policy to leverage the Digital Analytics Program https://digital.gov/guides/dap/. Website managers can get a login to access the metrics for the official website that they manage. After the initial login, the initial screen shows all the websites across the federal government that are participating in DAP. In June and July, the WEB training team will illustrate how to drill down into local information and how to set up a dashboard that presents local information. Getting Access to a DMA-hosted Official DOD Public-Facing Website

Everyone managing a DMA-hosted official DOD public-facing website must have a DOD Common Access Card (CAC). Currently, to get management access to an AFPIMS official DOD public facing website, begin by having someone in the unit who is already recognized in the system writing an email to the service desk that includes the name of the new website user, the roll they will require (Website Manager, Content Manager, Content Provider), the supervisor’s name, phone number and email and a copy of the individual’s current Information Assurance completion certificate.

All Photos and Graphics on Official DOD websites must follow VIRIN Naming Convention

All photos or graphics loaded to DMA WEB.mil hosted official DOD public facing websites have the VIRIN as the file name. A VIRIN consists of fifteen (15) data elements, in four (4) fields, separated by three hyphens, for a total of 18 characters, organized in the alphanumeric format NNNNNN-A-AANNN-NNN.

Understanding URLs for DOD and US government websites – Getting a .EDU Domain URL

Military education and training institutions can qualify for a .EDU domain if they achieve accreditation from a US Dept of Education authorized accrediting body. More information about the eligibility requirements for the .EDU is located at https://net.educause.edu/eligibility.htm. Once the organization is fully accredited, to acquire the .EDU go to https://www.educause.edu/  and apply.

New OMB Policy Requiring all Agencies to use .mil or .gov URLs

* Effective on the date of this memorandum, agencies must use government domains (i.e., .gov or .mil) for all official communications * Agencies can no longer waiver the dot gov or dot mil website requirement. Only OMB can provide a dot com waiver going forward * All non-dot mil or dot gov websites must be reported to OMB within 180 days

Get a DAP Account for AFPIMS Metrics

Follow this Quick Reference Guide (cheat sheet) to set up a Digital Analytics Program (DAP) account for the Defense Media Activity (DMA) hosted official DOD public facing website you manage: https://www.web.dma.mil/Portals/92/Documents/QRG-DAP%20Intro.pdf Once you have associated your government email through DAP - you no longer go to DAP, you can go directly into Google Analytics.

Upcoming Changes to Metrics/Analytics Program

One of the overarching goals of the WEB program is to align with standardized technologies across the USG and DOD. The three technologies we are looking at include: SiteGauge vs Digital Analytics Program (DAP) metrics/analytics systems, Accord vs Cornerstone, hosted by DAU Learning Management System, and Atlassian (Confluence/Jira) vs ServiceNow, a Microsoft partner and DISA offering. We are doing research, cost benefit analysis, functionality analysis and possibly pilots with these technologies to make the final determinations.
