Domain names can be purchased easily and the number and types have expanded greatly over the past few years (e.g. “”, “” etc.). Official U.S. Government websites ending in .mil and .gov will always be the official site, even on mobile devices.  The .gov and .mil Top Level Domain must be obtained through official channels and are reserved solely for U.S. Government use by the Internet governing bodies. The .mil top level domain is reserved exclusively for United State Department of Defense organizations.

All Defense Media Activity (DMA) websites are hosted on secure U.S. Department of Defense servers. They are delivered using the most current transmission security standards (TLS) and Domain Name Services (DNS-SEC). This ensures when readers surf to a DMA hosted  .mil or .gov website, the content  is secure and legitimate.
