All Photos and Graphics on Official DOD websites must follow VIRIN Naming Convention
FORT MEADE, MD — All photos or graphics loaded to DMA WEB.mil hosted official DOD public facing websites have the VIRIN as the file name. A VIRIN consists of fifteen (15) data elements, in four (4) fields, separated by three hyphens, for a total of 18 characters, organized in the alphanumeric format NNNNNN-A-AANNN-NNN.

FORT MEADE, MD — Military education and training institutions can qualify for a .EDU domain if they achieve accreditation from a US Dept of Education authorized accrediting body. More information about the eligibility requirements for the .EDU is located at https://net.educause.edu/eligibility.htm. Once the organization is fully accredited, to acquire the .EDU go to https://www.educause.edu/ and apply.

New OMB Policy Requiring all Agencies to use .mil or .gov URLs
Fort Meade, MD — * Effective on the date of this memorandum, agencies must use government domains (i.e., .gov or .mil) for all official communications * Agencies can no longer waiver the dot gov or dot mil website requirement. Only OMB can provide a dot com waiver going forward * All non-dot mil or dot gov websites must be reported to OMB within 180 days

Defense Media Activity, Fort Meade, MD — Follow this Quick Reference Guide (cheat sheet) to set up a Digital Analytics Program (DAP) account for the Defense Media Activity (DMA) hosted official DOD public facing website you manage: https://www.web.dma.mil/Portals/92/Documents/QRG-DAP%20Intro.pdf Once you have associated your government email through DAP - you no longer go to DAP, you can go directly into Google Analytics.

Upcoming Changes to Metrics/Analytics Program
One of the overarching goals of the WEB program is to align with standardized technologies across the USG and DOD. The three technologies we are looking at include: SiteGauge vs Digital Analytics Program (DAP) metrics/analytics systems, Accord vs Cornerstone, hosted by DAU Learning Management System, and Atlassian (Confluence/Jira) vs ServiceNow, a Microsoft partner and DISA offering. We are doing research, cost benefit analysis, functionality analysis and possibly pilots with these technologies to make the final determinations.
